Last week I decided to try out a cochineal dye bath. Pretty crazy stuff really - the dye is made from the crushed bodies of a Mexican scale insect (Dactylopius coccus). I pre-mordanted the yarn (Knitpicks Color Your Own) with alum. Here is the dye pot on the stove:
